Youth and Teen Counselling in Surrey BC

Teen & Young Adult Counselling

Is Your Teen Pulling Away and You’re Not Sure What’s Going On?

You’ve noticed changes. Maybe your teen seems anxious all the time, or they’ve lost interest in things they used to enjoy. They might be struggling with low mood, irritability, or emotional outbursts. Maybe you’re lying awake at night wondering:

  • Is my child depressed?
  • Why won’t my teenager talk to me?
  • How do I support my teen when they won’t open up?

You’re not alone in these questions—and if your teen isn’t confiding in you, you’re not failing as a parent. Many teens struggle silently, unsure of how to express what they’re feeling or where to turn. That’s where we come in.

Safe Haven Counselling offers compassionate support for adolescents (ages 14+) who may be struggling with anxiety, low mood, stress, emotional overwhelm, gender dysphoria and much more.

Teen Counselling Can Help Your Teen Feel Less Alone

Teen years can be overwhelming. With academic pressure, social stress, identity exploration, and emotional ups and downs, it’s no surprise that so many teens feel anxious, isolated, or stuck.

Teen therapy offers a safe, confidential space to:

  • Talk about what’s really going on beneath the surface
  • Learn tools to manage anxiety, low mood, or overwhelm
  • Build confidence and emotional resilience
  • Navigate friendship struggles and peer pressure
  • Process family changes or big life transitions

Whether your teen is showing signs of anxiety, stress, or you simply sense something’s off, counselling gives them the support they might not be ready to ask for.

  • Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT)
  • Mindfulness-based stress reduction
  • Attachment-based and trauma-informed approaches
How do I Know if my Teen Needs Therapy?

Some signs that your teen may need outside support include withdrawal from family or friends, increased irritability, anxiety, sadness, sleep changes, academic struggles, or simply saying they feel overwhelmed.

If your teen seems “off” and isn’t talking to you, counselling can help provide a safe place for them to open up.

Do you offer teen counselling in Surrey and White Rock?
Yes. We offer in-person appointments at our White Rock office and virtual sessions for teens throughout Surrey and the rest of BC.

What if I’m not sure what’s wrong—but I know something’s not right?
That’s more common than you think. You don’t need to have all the answers. If your gut says your teen needs support, trust it. We’re here to help you figure it out together.

Will I be Involved in the Counselling Process?

Your teen’s counselling sessions are confidential, as privacy is essential for building trust and helping them speak openly. While we won’t share the details of what your teen discusses in session, parents are not shut out of the process.

We offer parent check-ins and guidance when helpful, focusing on how you can best support your teen at home, strengthen communication, and understand what may be contributing to their struggles.

If there are safety concerns, these are addressed appropriately and in line with professional and legal obligations.

What if My Teen Refuses Counselling?

It can be very alarming for parents when they know something isn't right with their teen, but they won't open up.

Rather than forcing counselling, we encourage a gentle, collaborative approach. This might include introducing counselling as a supportive option, involving your teen in choosing the therapist, or starting with a single, low-pressure consultation. Sometimes simply knowing they have a safe place to talk—when they’re ready—is an important first step.

We’re also happy to support parents on their own, offering guidance on how to talk with your teen, reduce conflict around the issue, and create conditions that make counselling feel safer and more acceptable over time.
